Internet Treasure ChestI have had a review on the Internet Treasure Chest since I first started seeing the ads on TV. I also thought for sure that it was Don Lapre. I can say with a pretty good degree of certainty that it isn’t. After I had first watched the infomercial about a year ago, I thought two things... Firstly, I thought it was the Internet Tool Box which had "Al" from Home Improvement" on it and had gone out of business leaving a lot of people in a tight spot for help/service on the products they had purchased. After I realized that it wasn't the Internet Tool Box, but rather something new, there was something else that shocked me (about ten minutes into the show)… It looked a heck of a lot like a Don Lapre infomercial. Here is what I noticed about The Internet Treasure Chest infomercial:
I would have bet money it was Don. I looked up the address for The Internet Treasure Chest, hoping they would be in Arizona to confirm my suspicion (that’s where Don is located). Actually, it was a Michigan address so I blew it off thinking it wasn't Don. I posted a review about it asking for people’s opinions on the situation. I love buying used systems on Ebay, and one hadn’t come up yet (I refuse to buy most of this kind of stuff new). I got a lot of emails from people who had ordered and almost all of them had been pitched some pretty expensive backend items, including stuff from an overpriced credit card outfit called Card Services International. I sold an MDM2 (our main product at that time) to a guy who was actually friends with Don Lapre. He said that Don was working on the backend products for Russ Whitney and he wasn’t doing anything else to his knowledge. Secondly, I got a professional (yet direct) letter from the attorney representing The Internet Treasure Chest telling me flat out that they had nothing to do with Lapre. After reading this, I figured that they just tried to get their infomercial to look like Lapre but he wasn’t involved. At this point, I am going to put it in the Not Recommended category. This opinion may change in the future if their backend products change. *** UPDATE *** Looks like the Internet Treasure Chest is in trouble with the FTC. http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2003/07/itc.htm Matt Gagnon |
