SMC
My previous review about Specialty Merchandise Corporation basically
didn't recommend the opportunity because of the lack of unique marketing
methods that they taught. Yes, they have a nice selection of products
but the marketing was, well frankly, cheesy. I thought that was going
to be the end of the story. I was wrong.
Kerry Cox who is the VP is marketing for SMC, sent me an e-mail asking
that I give him a call. I get a few letters and phone calls from guys
on TV but it is usually their attorneys and they are huffing about what
I have written about them.
I called Kerry thinking that it was going to turn into a shouting match
but he was incredibly professional and very cool. He basically agreed
with me that a few of the marketing methods (and manuals) that SMC did
in the past were not their best materials and he would love to have me
review their newest manual.
I said, "Sure, why the heck not". He ended up sending me a new complete
Specialty Merchandise Corporation kit and I sent him a new MDM2 mentoring
program. I didn't want to get something for free with him thinking that
I was going to give them a new, nice write up. We ended up talking about
infomercial marketing for about 30 minutes and I waited for my package
to arrive.
I will say right off that I was impressed with the look of the package
compared to what they sold a few years ago. They had sections on everything
from marketing at a flea market to getting online and making money.
The videos, manuals and everything else was a whole new level of quality
and the info was even better. I was impressed. They even had more products
than they did a year ago.
Good enough for me to give the big thumbs up to? Yes and No. I will
recommend the package if you are looking to start a simple home based
business or you are looking for a new source of products.
I still don't think that they are a great source for internet or mail
order information because their materials are just too thin. Not enough
meat. For mail order or internet marketing, you are much better off picking
up a book (like mine) or one at Amazon on the subject compared to what
they teach in their stuff. They are really more for the flea market crowd.
It just depends on what you are looking for.

Side Note: Kerry is a class act and someone that knows
what the hell he is doing. 90% of the people that you see on TV (or the
net for that matter) are morons who have such big egos that they don't
think about picking up a phone and trying to show that they are different.
Most just freak out and sic an attorney on you. SMC (and Kerry) are obviously
different.
